People Around Here -- a new book and gallery show by artist Jason Polan and the latest chapter in his ambitious attempt to draw every person in New York.

If you've been out on a New York street at all, then for all you know he's already doodled your essence into the annals of city history.

He's about a tenth of a percent through his goal of capturing Every Person in New York for posterity, so his work is cut out for him. His track record with comprehensive series (The Every Piece of Art in the Museum of Modern Art Book) speaks in his favor though, and his ambitious project has drawn many volunteers eager to participate.

His role as an archivist of the uncommon and the everyday also informs his weekly Things I Saw blog for The New York Times, a hand-drawn pastiche of observed and reader-suggested miscellany.
