Opening Ceremony & Project No. 8a : Shopping

No. 8a & Opening Ceremony

No. 8a is a travel, design & hotel shop run by our friends Elizabeth Beer and Brian Janusiak. They travel a lot and the shop is a little bit of everything they have found along the way. There are a lot of different ways people travel -- as designers, as business people, as a family, or some other way. No. 8a expands the idea of the travel shop. Elizabeth and Brian work with a lot of interesting people, and many of the projects they carry are created or curated just for that space. You can get a New York souvenir that is thoughtfully selected and made in NYC by New Yorkers, as well as all manner of unusual gifts, interesting magazines, travel goods and clothes.

Opening Ceremony and Ace share a love for classic American heritage and forward-thinking design. OC opened its second location in New York City at Ace Hotel in February 2010. Divided in half -- one side feminine, one side masculine -- the shop's highlights include a hand-selected collection of travel essentials from toothpaste to condoms, apothecary items, international snacks and specially-commissioned souvenirs tailored to Ace Hotel’s clientele of traveling creative professionals and adventurers.

Opening Ceremony collaborates with lots of renowned designers, artists and other partners. At their Ace store, Proenza Schouler, Comme des Garcons, Band of Outsiders and Alexander Wang offer their spin on travel essentials and souvenirs such as custom robes, pajamas and re-imagined “I Heart NY” T-shirts. New O.C. partners including Maison Martin Margiela, Barton Perreira, Kiehl’s, Tumi, McSweeney’s and Criterion Collection add to the diverse mix.
