Friends of the Smell presents Regal Degal live and a DJ set by Jimi Hey of Beachwood Sparks. Friends of The Smell, curated by Dean Spunt of No Age, sends friends of the legendary downtown LA DIY venue that helped launch acts like Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda, Foot Village, The Mae Shi and HEALTH out to the desert every couple weeks or so to spread some of that Angeleno can-do around.
The Smell is a community-oriented, not-for-profit, volunteer-run music space in downtown LA, open to people of all ages who are interested in participating in and supporting an environment of creativity and artistic innovation and freedom.
Brooklyn to LA transplants Regal Degal perform in a kind of wind-tunneling locked-groove that gathers steam as it circles into itself. Fronted by former Dinowalrus drummer Josh da Costa they take a holistic approach to percussion, wringing staccato bolts of sound from every instrument.
Jimi Hey is a drummer and vocalist for influential psychedelic country band Beachwood Sparks, who recently reunited and released Tarnished Gold, their first album in eleven years, this past summer on Sub Pop.
