We're celebrating the desert modern aesthetic during Palm Springs Modernism Week with a with a fashion show by Deja Vu Vintage, a pop-up shop and book signing by Modern Bear, an Eames film retrospective, a history of mermaid attractions by the scholars from Vintage Roadside, and a fire-breathing aquatic performance by real-life mermaid Medusirena Marina.
Deja Vu Vintage Finery presents Desert Style: Mid-Century Fashion in Palm Springs, a vintage fashion show with looks inspired by the famed nightclubs and lounges of the desert modern era like The Racquet Club, The Dollhouse and The Chi Chi Club. A silent auction featuring vintage clothing and accessories will be held to benefit the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation. In the Commune at 7pm. $20. 18+ to enter, 21+ to hold a martini. February 18 & 19
The design gurus from Modern Bear sign copies of their new book and host a pop-up shop featuring offerings for aesthetically-motivated bears, their admirers and friends. In the Clubhouse both days from noon to 8pm. Free, all ages.
We celebrate the revolutionary design team of Charles and Ray Eames with an Eames Film Retrospective about the life and work of the massively influential duo presented by filmmaker and Eames' grandson, Eames Demetrios. In the Clubhouse, 7 - 9pm. Free & all ages.
Mermaidoligists and historians of mid-century modern, Jeff and Kelly from Vintage Roadside, debut their oral history of storied mermaid attractions, followed by a fire-eating aquatic performance by real-life mermaid Medusirena Marina. Presented in the Commune with pool performance from 7-10pm. $25, all ages. Tickets can be purchased here.
