Unless you’re generally foul-tempered or afraid of insanely handsome crowds, you will have a stellar evening at the next rendition of Designspeaks – a design gathering featuring the most intriguing design thinkers and practitioners in our region. This time around, we’re thrilled to co-host The Felt Hat join us. Their approach to design thinking and practice is compelled by curiosity, and the evening promises to be one of exploration. They’ve completed hundreds of commissions for clients ranging from Stanford University to Skylab Architecture to Museum of Contemporary Craft to Lucy Activewear to The Portland Armory Theater. RSVP before May 18 -- the beer and wine floweth freely with your admission (with ID), as will a selection of light nibbles and non-alcoholic drinks. As if that isn't enough, we'll be giving stuff away.

To RSVP, email rsvp@designspeaks.org with the full names of everyone on your list, and indicate student status if applicable. We will make every attempt to accommodate walk-ins. Reservations will close on Wednesday, May 18 at noon. General admission is $30 and student admission is $12 -- both payable by cash or check at the door (but not credit cards, food, bribes or illicit favors). Designspeaks exists to encourage people to talk about design. Not to pat backs or inflate egos, but rather to invite discussion, or even to encourage dissent. And if a few people become inspired along the way, so much the better. Design is culture and experience. The quarterly speaker series is about confronting issues, realizing opportunities, establishing context, and celebrating a sense of place.
