    Hauschka lectures at Ace about the piano as a soundsource for tonal and atonal music, and discusses his creative process. After his talk, he'll be playing a live show at Holocene around 9pm.

    Hauschka is the musical alias of German-based pianist and composer Volker Bertelmann. He modifies the sound of the piano with bottle caps, ping pong balls, lighters, wire, and anything else that strikes his fancy -- a playful disruption, intervention and exploration of the possibilities of the piano to create a sound described as "a delicate, sometimes haunting form of experimental piano music." Hauschka's sound borrows as much from John Cage's same-titled prepared piano works and the historic predecessors of Les Six – namely Erik Satie.
