Feb 9 5:00PM // The Cleaners
The Red Bull Music Academy hosts a workshop and Q & A about the future of music with Salvatore Principato (Liquid Liquid) and Morgan Geist (Metro Area, Storm Queen) at The Cleaners.
The Red Bull Music Academy is a world-travelling symposium of music and knowledge that brings together the producers, musicians, MCs, singers, songwriters, engineers, DJs, instrumentalists, arrangers, and sound experimentalists shaping our musical future -- to share creative visions, attend workshops and live performances and learn from each other. Held in a different city year, this year's Academy is in New York. 60 participants are selected to attend at no cost. You can download an application here.
Salvatore Principato is best known as the vocalist and percussionist of seminal NYC minimalist-funk band Liquid Liquid, but his nearly three-decade career spans a wide variety of genres. He was part of the industrial dub outfit Fist of Facts. He pioneered words-and-music shows in New York clubs and galleries and a series of outdoor shows on the Hudson pier. He played drums with Liki Outhaus, collaborated with Phil Toshio Sudo in the experimental project Avant Garbage, and runs a Manhattan rehearsal studio. He currently promotes live African and Caribbean concerts through his monthly Universal Sundays.
Morgan Geist is a producer, DJ and musical archivist. He has produced an evolving and expanding spectrum of musical styles informed by early techno, seventies disco, Italo-house and prog rock influences as one half, with Darshan Jesrani, of Metro Area, on a solo LP and most recently with a return to his analog roots under the alias Storm Queen.
